Nearly 2,400 compete in Northside Atlanta Women’s race
Rain didn’t stop nearly 2,400 runners from competing in the Northside Hospital Atlanta Women’s 4 Miler.
The race is Atlanta’s premier women’s running experience, in its first year as a 4-mile run after previously covering 5 kilometers. The course on May 3 began at Lenox Square, moved down Peachtree Street and onto the PATH400 greenway trail.
Laura Pifer of Suwanee won the race with a time of 22 minutes, 46 seconds.
Dr. Beatrix Ohienmhen of Northside Cherokee Pediatrics finished third in her age group and was 14th overall with a time of 27:11.
Running legend Kathrine Switzer joined the runners. Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as an officially registered competitor, in 1967. Lauren Cicinelli, a registered dietitian with Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute – Sports Medicine, joined Switzer on the Women’s Leadership Panel the night before the race.
