Better Together: Celebrating Parks and Recreation Month in Brookhaven
Brookhaven, GA, July 1, 2025 – From trails and splash pads to fun community events and recreational programs, Brookhaven’s Park and Recreation Department works year-round to ensure the parks are welcoming, safe, and ready for all to enjoy.
This July, the City of Brookhaven joins others around the country in celebrating 40 years of Parks and Recreation Month, with this year’s national theme: “Build Together, Play Together.” The theme highlights the role of parks and recreation professionals in creating thriving communities.
“This month is about recognizing the hard work and dedication of our Parks and Recreation staff. Our parks and events wouldn’t be what they are without their commitment,” said Parks and Recreation Director, Michael King. “This month’s theme, “Build Together, Play Together” goes hand in hand with everything Brookhaven does throughout the City, ensuring that we are #BetterTogether.”
The Parks and Recreation Department manages over 15 parks, more than 100 acres of green space, 2 recreation centers, and 3 community pools. The department also offers a wide variety of programs and events for all ages, including recreation and aquatics programs, and annual community favorites such as the Cherry Blossom Festival, Easter Egg Hunts, and Touch-A-Truck.
As part of Parks and Recreation Month, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is celebrating Parks and Recreation Professionals Day on Friday, July 18. This is a day to celebrate all the dedicated professionals who build strong, vibrant and resilient communities. Be sure to thank a parks and recreation professional if you see them around Brookhaven this month.
