Harts Mill Rd Speed Limit Reduction
Brookhaven continues to cut speed limits on main thoroughfares
Harts Mill Rd limit now 30MPH in Brookhaven city limits
Brookhaven, GA, June 27, 2025 --- In response to resident concerns of excessive speeds on Brookhaven roads, the Brookhaven City Council approved a proposal that would lower speed limits on four major thoroughfares that traverse the City.
“This is an important step toward our ultimate goal of making streets safer for drivers, pedestrians, bikers, and the people who live in these residential corridors,” said District 1 Council Member Michael Diaz.
In the spring of 2024, Council directed staff to find ways to generally lower the speed limits on City streets, which requires collaboration with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). GDOT approval was required and granted to modify speed limits and retain the ability to use detection devices on those street segments to enforce the posted speed limits.
The first of the four changes took place along Dresden Drive, reducing the speed limit from 35 to 25 MPH. The final 30 MPH sign was replaced in Brookhaven’s portion of Harts Mill Rd at 2PM today, Thursday, June 27.
Speed limit changes on Ashford Dunwoody Rd and Johnson Ferry Rd will come later this summer.
