Brookhaven to hold public hearings for 2025 millage rate

Brookhaven, GA, May 29, 2025 – Residents are encouraged to attend upcoming public hearings for the 2025 millage rate. The meetings will be held Tuesday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday, June 17 at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at City Hall at 4362 Peachtree Road, Brookhaven.

After the final public hearing, the millage rate will be formally adopted at the June 17, 2025, meeting at 6:30 p.m.

In November 2024, the Brookhaven City Council adopted a balanced 2025 budget totaling $101.9 million in direct expenditures, defined as the total of all funds minus interfund transfers. The general fund budget, which funds the day-to-day operations of the City of Brookhaven, totals $38.1 million, and represents an increase of $2.7 million (7.6 percent) from the 2024 General Fund budget as revised. The millage rate in 2025 is 2.74 mills, the same rate which has been in effect since 2015.

Due to the revaluation of real property tax assessments, the proposed 2.74 millage rate results in an increase in property tax by 0.06 mills over the Rollback Millage rate. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 2.68 mills.

For example, the tax decrease based on the difference between the rollback and the proposed millage rate for a homesteaded property with a fair market value of $775,000 would be approximately $18.00, and the proposed increase for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $1.575 million is about $37.80. Please read more here
