Community Outreach Coordinator

Status: Exempt, Full-Time
Reports To: VP of Operations
Location: Dunwoody, GA

Position Summary

The Community Outreach Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta by building strong community connections and leading volunteer engagement. This position is responsible for volunteer recruitment, communications, scheduling, and placement, while also supporting Community Buddy customer service, school partnerships, donor and corporate sponsor relations, event coordination, and social media content.

Supervisory Responsibility: Volunteers


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Volunteer Management

  • Plan, coordinate, schedule, and manage all volunteer program activities.
  • Develop and maintain volunteer training and orientation programs.
  • Recruit, educate, and onboard volunteers.
  • Orient new volunteers and lead them during volunteer shifts.
  • Assess volunteer performance and suitability.
  • Maintain a year-round volunteer calendar by proactively identifying service opportunities.
  • Respond to inquiries from individual, group, and corporate volunteers.
  • Lead youth volunteer initiatives, including:
    • Teen/Mitzvah volunteer opportunities
    • Honor Roll recognition program
    • Special volunteer sessions
  • Ensure compliance with all required volunteer documentation, including:
    • Liability waivers
    • Photo/likeness releases
  • Maintain volunteer records and reporting.
  • Coordinate facility tours for prospective volunteers and visitors.
  • Perform additional administrative and program management duties as assigned.

Community Buddy Program

  • Manage day-to-day communication with Community Buddy Champions.
  • Coordinate scheduling and communicate order or schedule changes with the Operations Coordinator.
  • Resolve Community Buddy customer service issues.
  • Manage required documentation, including:
    • Memorandums of Understanding
    • Pledge Sheets
    • Parent Release Forms
    • Volunteer reporting
    • Demographic reporting
  • Visit Community Buddy packing sessions and food deliveries to:
    • Express appreciation
    • Gather feedback
    • Share best practices
    • Improve operations
  • Support Community Buddy Zoom meetings.
  • Assist with onboarding new Community Buddy organizations.
  • Participate on the Community Buddy/School Committee.

School Partnerships

  • Maintain regular communication with school contacts.
  • Educate schools on Backpack Buddies programs.
  • Provide excellent customer service and resolve issues.
  • Support onboarding of new schools.
  • Conduct school visits to:
    • Gather feedback
    • Share best practices
    • Express appreciation
    • Identify operational improvements
  • Participate on the Community Buddy/School Committee.

Donor & Corporate Sponsor Relations

  • Support the CEO with donor and corporate sponsor communications.
  • Express appreciation and provide stewardship support.
  • Coordinate required documentation and proof of performance.
  • Identify potential sponsorship or development opportunities for the CEO and Development Committee.
  • Resolve donor and sponsor customer service inquiries.
  • Attend Development Committee meetings and document action items.

Events

  • Attend and support events, including evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Support food drives and community events.
  • Assist with food packing sessions.
  • Recruit and coordinate event volunteers.
  • Support committee planning and event logistics.
  • Travel throughout Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta's service area as needed.

Marketing & Community Engagement

  • Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta.
  • Clearly communicate the organization's mission and impact.
  • Participate on the Communications Committee.
  • Capture photos, videos, and stories to support marketing and public relations efforts.
  • Represent the organization at community events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy and follow-through.
  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Passion for volunteerism, community engagement, and customer service.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to represent Backpack Buddies professionally.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

  • Pack and move boxes.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous people management experience preferred.
