Nantahala Outdoor Center Celebrates Grand Opening in Atlanta
May 27: Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
May 30: Grand Opening Celebrating Two New Adventure Centers in
Atlanta’s Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area
Wesser, N.C. (May 14, 2015)—Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), the nation's largest outfitter, celebrates the grand opening of two riverside adventure centers on the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, Georgia. Members of the press are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony and photo op at Powers Island on Wednesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. The celebration continues Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the general public, with family-friendly outdoor activities and the opportunity to paddle with Gold Medal Olympian Joe Jacobi.
As the only National Park Service Authorized Concessionaire located inside the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA), NOC’s new locations will eventually provide a full suite of outdoor lifestyle services including river tubing trips, paddling instruction, paddlesports and specialty retail, guided fishing tours, food and beverage operations, shuttle services, special events and watercraft rentals of kayaks, canoes, rafts and standup paddleboards (SUPs). The two NOC Chattahoochee River outposts at Powers Island and Johnson Ferry sit on eight riverside acres and enable the company to offer river trips and fishing on the 3.5-mile Johnson Ferry to Powers Island flatwater section and the 3-mile Class II Powers Island to Paces Mill whitewater sections of the river. For trip descriptions and booking information visit noc.com/plan-your-trip/chattahoochee-river.

The National Park Service awarded NOC a 10-year concessions contract beginning in Spring 2015 for operations in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area that currently receives over 3 million recreational visitors per year. The entire operation will result in the creation of approximately 60 new jobs and will create a metro Atlanta venue for local, national and international-level paddling races, events and competitions. Anyone interested in applying should visit noccarreers.com.
The Chattahoochee River locations will further NOC’s mission of introducing the public to the physical, emotional and social benefits of human-powered outdoor recreation. NOC expects to offer high-quality and low-impact recreational experiences on the Chattahoochee as the company does on seven other Southeastern rivers in four states.
NOC CEO Sutton Bacon commented, “NOC is thrilled to be the National Park Service’s partner in Atlanta. We have an exciting vision for Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area—one that will make this resource even more engaging and useful to the public. We hope NOC’s presence in Atlanta promotes the outdoor lifestyle and raises awareness about the value of public lands for recreation and economic development.”
