Join us as we welcome Dr. Janine Pettiford, MD, FACS, from Northside Hospital as our Keynote speaker to discuss the topic of Breast Cancer Awareness for the month of October. Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. Survival rates for breast cancer have gotten better because of widespread education, improved screening, early diagnosis and better therapies.
About our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Janine Pettiford:
Dr. Janine Pettiford was born and raised in Kansas City, MO and is Board Certified in General Surgery and Fellowship trained in Surgical Breast Oncology and Trauma Critical Care. She currently practices in Surgical Breast Oncology at Northside Hospital. She is past Chair of the Department of General Surgery at Southern Regional Medical Center and past Director of the Breast Program at Southern Regional Medical Center. Dr. Pettiford obtained her undergraduate degree at Howard University in Washington DC and attended medical school at Saint Louis University School of Medicine where she graduated with honors. She performed her General Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Following residency, she completed a Pediatric Trauma Critical Care and Research Fellowship at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, MO and then completed her Surgical Breast Fellowship at Texas Tech Health Sciences University in Amarillo, Texas. She is committed to the prevention and intervention of breast cancer. She believes education in breast cancer awareness is imperative and key. She is active in numerous community activities. She has two offices located in Midtown Atlanta, GA and Stockbridge, GA. She is a proud mother of a 10 year old daughter. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, participating in church activities, swimming and traveling.
